There is something really moving about watching six twelve-year-old girls swim butterfly against each other, and do it well.

They are powerful.

They are athletic.

They are strong.

They are assertive.

They are forceful.

They are dominant.

They are competitive.

All things that women are socialized not to be. And yet, there are six girls at the cusp of adolescence, owning all of it.

It is beautiful.
